Man seriously injured in M5 crash

A serious collision closed the M5 North and Southbound at junction 28, Cullompton, and junction 29, Exeter.

Police were called just after 9am today (Wednesday 21 September) to the incident on the M5 at Cullompton.

A lorry, which was travelling on the M5 Northbound, has collided with the central reservation.

Two other vehicles have been involved.

An air ambulance was called and landed on the carriageway to assist with casualties.

A man has been seriously injured and has been taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, along with two other causalities.

Officers from the Roads Policing Team and Serious Collision Investigation Team attended the scene and are appealing for further witnesses.

The M5 is closed northbound for accident investigation work between J29 A30 (Exeter/Honiton) and J28 A373/B3181 (Cullompton) causing congestion all the way to the services at Junction 30.

The carriageway is expected to remain closed into the afternoon.

One lane is also closed southbound between Junction 28 for Cullompton and 29 for Exeter due to repairs to the central reservation following the collision.

Diversions are in place.
