Essential stabilisation work will continue on the B3193 Teign Valley Road throughout next month.

The embankment above the River Teign has partially collapsed and requires work to ensure the highway is supported.

In order for the bank to be reinforced, special drilling equipment is needed which will take up the whole road. This will need the road to be closed, south of the Teign Valley Golf Club, from 8:30am to 3:30pm each day from Monday 2 October to Thursday 5 October. These dates are weather dependant and may have to be changed if there is heavy rain.

As part of the scheme, it's also planned that the road is resurfaced which will be carried out under another road closure from Monday 16 October to Wednesday 18 October, again subject to weather conditions.

Temporary traffic lights are already in place for the public's safety just north of Spara Bridge, due to the collapse of a retaining wall. This section of the road will also be closed from Monday 2 October to Thursday 5 October for emergency site investigation to be undertaken. Once the extent of the damage has been established, additional closures may be needed but temporary lights will remain in place until this section has been stabilised.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highway Management, said: "Public safety is of paramount importance which is why we're carrying out this work, and while every effort is being made to minimise disruption, unfortunately the road will need to be closed at times. However, it's vital that this work is carried out."

The crossroads at Spara Bridge will remain open and the golf course can be accessed throughout the work.

An official signed diversion route will be in place via the B3212, A38 and A30. Site staff will man each end of the closure in case motorists need directions.
