South West Coast Path Association and South West Water team up at County Show
Following their joint presence at last week’s Devon County Show, the South West Coast Path Association and South West Water announce they will be working together to help protect the South West Coast Path.
The South West Coast Path attracts 8.6 million visitors a year and contributes £436m to the local economy, making it one of the most popular walking routes in the country. Alongside the quality of the Path itself, it is the views and natural environment that people come to enjoy when visiting the coast. South West Water has been working hard to help clean up our coastal waters, making it a natural partner for the South West Coast Path Association.
Ken Carter, Vice-Chairman of the South West Coast Path Association who volunteered to help support the teams’ attendance at the show says;
“We’re delighted that South West Water is supporting our activities. It’s the second year running they have stepped in to help us in our work, providing a high quality experience for walkers and maintaining the best possible route for the Coast Path.”
“We look forward to sharing and promoting many key events and initiatives with them over the next 12 months, in particular our flagship event, which we launched at the show, the South West Coast Path Challenge taking place in October 2015.”
Monica Read, South West Water’s Business Services and Sustainability Director, says: “We are delighted to team up again with the South West Coast Path Association to support one of the region’s major tourist attractions.
“The South West Coast Path offers a fantastic walking experience, some of the most scenic views of some of Europe’s cleanest beaches and coastal waters, as well as access to many of those beaches and waterways.
“Over the last two decades South West Water has undertaken a massive clean-up of Devon and Cornwall’s bathing waters and this has helped to transform the fortunes of tourism in the region. Last year, we spent a further £20million to deliver even cleaner seas at nine beaches in the South West.
“This renewed partnership with the South West Coast Path Association fits with our aim of supporting local communities and protecting the natural environment. We look forward to helping to promote this jewel in the region’s tourism crown and the good work done by the Association.”
