Staff give RD&E thumbs up in latest survey

Results from the latest annual NHS Staff Survey show once again that high numbers of RD&E staff would recommend the hospital as a place to work or receive treatment.

The 2015 survey results, released this week, also show that the level of staff satisfaction with the quality of work and patient care they deliver is above the national average for acute trusts. And the RD&E’s overall staff engagement score has also risen above the national average after the Trust began a detailed programme of engagement activities two years ago designed to improve staff involvement in change and encourage team working.

The results come shortly after the RD&E was given a glowing report across a range of areas, including strong staff engagement, by the Care Quality Commission following its full inspection of the hospital last November.

Other areas where the RD&E ranks highly compared to other acute trusts include staff confidence to report unsafe clinical practice, work-related stress and the percentage of staff agreeing their role makes a difference to patients and service users.

Tracey Cottam, RD&E Director of Transformation and Organisational Development, said: “We are delighted with these results because we know there is a direct correlation between delivery of safe, high quality patient care with having engaged and motivated staff.  As a Trust, we have worked hard to establish a different way of working which improves levels of staff engagement and satisfaction and these results show we are moving in the right direction.

“Working in a busy and high-performing acute hospital like the RD&E brings many challenges.  However, our staff consistently respond brilliantly and we are very proud of them.”
