SunGift install UK’s first solar carport
Exeter’s SunGift Energy has installed the UK’s first ‘Shadow Solar’ carport at its Marsh Barton HQ.
The system, which takes just one day to erect, is a 100% waterproof modern carport with the added benefit of having solar panels for its roof.
“It’s an exceptional piece of kit that not only provides a full solar PV system, but also delivers excellent shading and protection,” said SunGift Scott Oldfield. “Devon Homeowners are increasingly looking for new solutions that meet their needs and the Shadow Solar is one of the industry’s latest innovations.”
“As more people buy electric cars, the Shadow Solar will also allow them to power their cars directly from the energy they’re generating from the sun,” added Scott.
“In other countries the Shadow Solar has already been used on the side of houses as a sundeck, as roofs for swimming pools, and as open conservatories, while companies have used them for a variety of applications. It’s such a flexible solution and it even includes rainwater harvesting, which can be connected to existing water tanks.”
The two versions of the IRFTS Shadow Solar that SunGift supply are the Solar Garden (free-standing with four mounting feet) and the Solar Home (attached to a building with two mounting feet).
