SWH's anniversary community service day

SWH (South West Highways Ltd) has been praised for commemorating its 20th anniversary by undertaking a day of ‘community service’.

A multi-disciplinary contractor, SWH provides a full range of solutions from civil engineering and highway maintenance to build services for both the private and public sectors. Its employees will be undertaking generous acts of community service right across the county on 17th April to honour the company reaching a 20 year milestone.

Initiatives that the local firm will be supporting include the refurbishment of Stiltskin Theatre in Plymouth. The theatre is in desperate need of some build services to include the installation of toilet facilities, heating and running water. Construction Director, Peter Davies for SWH, said, ‘SWH is passionate about raising its profile within Plymouth in particular and initiatives such as this one enable us to make a difference, support a local cause and demonstrate our abilities.’

Elsewhere in the county SWH will be litter picking in Barnstaple and supporting local charity CHICKS in Tavistock with the revamping of their basketball and trampoline barns.

In Exeter employees will be undertaking a number of activities that will make a big difference to include volunteering alongside the Pinhoe Scout Group to update their carpark and developing outdoor space at Dunkeswell Primary School.

SWH’s MD, Ben Pyle, said, ‘SWH has a real presence across the county on a daily basis. You’ll see us carrying out highway maintenance, refurbishing bridges and building schools, but now you’ll see us litter picking! Each month the company receives lots of post from members of the public praising the efforts and skills of our staff. It’s not uncommon to receive letters which highlight just how community minded our people are, although it has to be said that a lot of the time, our people’s efforts go unrecognised. You could call them ‘unsung heroes’; from rescuing victims of road accidents to offering their services to the elderly. We really are proud of our people and the enthusiasm they show for community care. In this way, it’s important for us to embrace this enthusiasm and to give something back. We are excited about celebrating our 20th anniversary in a way that allows our people to demonstrate how much pride they take in looking after the people of Devon and beyond’.
