Woman seriously injured in Devon collision

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision on the A361 near Barnstaple on Sunday which left a woman passenger with serious injuries.

Emergency services were called at 4.05pm after the head-on collision between a Land Rover Freelander and a Skoda Yeti between West Buckland and Landkey.

The female passenger of the Yeti was extracted from the vehicle by the fire service and was taken to North Devon District Hospital with serious injuries. The Bideford woman, who is in her 30s, was later transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

The male driver of the Yeti and female driver of the Land Rover sustained minor injuries and were also treated at North Devon District Hospital.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the collision and South West Highways were deployed with a mechanical road sweeper to clear the carriageway of debris.

The road was closed 11 hours for the road to be cleared and for officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit to carry out an examination of the scene.

Officers are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles travelling on the A361 prior to the incident.
