Alex among youngest directors with Barratt Homes
A successful graduate placement year with Barratt Homes in Exeter provided firm foundations for Alex Hugo’s career with the national housebuilder.
As a student Alex shone in his year with the housebuilder gaining experience in everything from land to sales and marketing.
He impressed the directors so much he was awarded a bursary for his final year of business studies and joined the team in Exeter after graduation as a trainee land manager.
Alex has climbed the career ladder and at just 30 years old he has just been appointed development director for the division with a wide remit throughout the south west.
“The training and support I have received from Barratt has been key to my progression,’’ said Alex. “The company allows staff to use their own resources and self-motivation to make a difference and the experience here is tremendous.’’
He said that working in the housing industry through good and bad times has provided valuable experience and helps him with a role which now ranges from preparing bids for land through to managing legal completions and long term strategy planning.
“Barratt has a clear commitment to encouraging the next generation of staff whether that is trades with the apprenticeship programme or directors with dedicated management schemes,’’ he said.
And as one of the company’s youngest directors Alex is not resting on his laurels and has his sights set on the next steps in his Barratt career.
Barratt Exeter managing director Paul Moran said that Alex was a great example of the benefits of a strong training programme.
“Securing and retaining the best staff is crucial to our success in the south west and Alex is a great example of the benefits of a dedicated and ongoing training programme,’’ said Paul.
“As a company we have a long term commitment to supporting, training and encouraging our staff and I’m delighted to have appointed Alex to his new role.”
