Plymouth-based artisan snack brand, Burts Potato Chips, is celebrating after winning the prestigious Food and Drink Award at last night’s Made in the South West (MISW) Awards. Fending off stiff competition from other local manufacturers, the award recognises Burts status as one of the UK’s fastest growing snack brands with strong regional importance.

Burts Chips has produced award-winning potato chips for over 19 years, but particularly impressed MISW with its continued innovation in the sector. The panel commended Burts for its industry-leading Lentil Waves product, which contributed to the company’s increased turnover of more than £4m in the past year alone.  Overall, turnover has risen by 21% following a £3.1m capital expenditure programme across the business.

David Nairn, Managing Director at Burts Chips, commented: “It’s a true honour to be recognised as the leading food and drink manfucturer in the South West, and we are delighted by this awards win. We have been working incredibly hard over the past few years to invest into the company and grow as a business, and are delighted to have our growing licenced partnerships with world-renowned brands such as Guinness and Levi Roots acknowledged by the MISW team too. For fans of our Lentil Waves product, which received a generous shout-out from the adjudicators, keep your eyes peeled in the new year, as we’ve got some very exciting product innovation afoot.”

Made in the South Awards showcases manufacturing excellence across the South West and gives local companies the opportunity to celebrate their ongoing commitment to world-class quality and excellence.
