Despite recession – care provider calls for 100 new carers in south Devon
A SOUTH Devon care provider is calling for kind and caring individuals to come forward to become a care worker as demand for carers continues to rise despite the recession (September 2020).
As other industries face uncertain futures, Guardian Homecare, which provides care to its service users in the Exeter area, is looking for 100 new staff to start now.
Catherine Porter, Manager of Guardian Homecare, says: “Despite the UK economy now entering into a technical recession, following a 20% fall in gross domestic product (GDP) during the second quarter of this year, our company is going from strength-to-strength.
“Demand for care is so high, our team is always expanding and we’re regularly taking on new workers to provide expert care across south Devon.
“There have been lots of recent closures of retail stores in this part of the world, including Pets at Home in Exeter and the 200-year-old, family-run Ridgways Shoes in Newton Abbot, leaving 17 people unemployed. We also understand in Exeter various bridal wear, homeware, fashion and make-up shops closed during the lockdown and will never re-open, plus Exeter Cookery School went into voluntary liquidation. In Torquay some hotels have closed and visitor attractions have been threatened. In June, Living Coasts announced it was to close for good – putting 44 staff at risk of redundancy.
“We want to reassure people who are being made redundant in south Devon from customer facing roles that we have vacancies with immediate start for the right candidates and our jobs offer security and longevity.
“No experience is necessary, just a willingness to care and to learn. We offer free, full training, which includes a company induction, first aid, information on dementia, health and safety, food safety, infection control, handling medication and moving and handling service users, with the opportunity to achieve industry-recognised qualifications after the initial six months probationary period.
“There are lots of opportunities for internal advancement for all our team members who show commitment, reliability and true passion. We provide a great support network for carers too.”
Catherine and her team want to hear from kind, honest and reliable people who would like to find out more.
“We provide all our staff full paid training and shadowing before they start, and they have additional, on the job support from a local team 24/7. We give free uniforms and a national staff discount scheme for all major brands.”
Guardian Homecare delivers personalised home care supporting people wishing to stay living safely and comfortably in their own homes in south Devon.
It is searching for more honest and kind-hearted individuals to help add to its teams of nearly 200 carers in the county.
Catherine continues: “We are looking for new recruits to help make a difference within communities across south Devon by caring for individuals seeking extra support. Carers who join our team will help to provide domiciliary and live-in care as well as dementia care.”
Guardian Homecare’s large team of trained, specialist, care workers provide positive based outcomes and person-centred care to people throughout south Devon.
“We are fighting against the current economic climate and are filling more positions than ever across the county. This is a great opportunity for those looking for a completely new and exciting opportunity to work in this very rewarding role.
“Being a carer is a really satisfying job and gives people the opportunity to create a worthwhile and long-term career for themselves.”
New recruits are given free uniforms, access to national staff discount scheme for many major brands, as well as 28 days paid holiday, paid travel between calls and paid mileage.
Catherine added: “Being dependable is key to this role as people will be looking after the needs of vulnerable adults. Applicants also need to be even-tempered and caring and must enjoy making a positive difference to people’s lives.
“Being patient, able to cope with change and having the ability to display empathy and warmth are also essential.
“We offer new recruits a five-day training induction and a 12-week on-boarding programme working towards a care certificate. We also offer flexible working hours, both full and part-time, as well as competitive wages and generous holiday allocation.
“It is a great opportunity for people to achieve a recognised qualification and they’ll also be able to have access to exclusive discounts online and in-store from retailers including Tesco, Primark and Argos. The scheme also covers holidays and electrical goods.”
