Gregory Distribution Limited (GDL) joined in celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by employing a young female engineering apprentice who visited the company’s truck stand at the Apprenticeship Expo event, held at Exeter College’s Technology Centre last Friday.

18 year-old, Lauren Broom will join GDL’s Cullompton Workshop on a Level 2 Heavy Vehicle Mechanic Apprenticeship. She was one of over 50 young people to visit the Chiefs’ liveried truck which was staffed by GDL HR personnel as current and former apprentices.

Paul Turner, Head of Human Resources at GDL, said: “As the business continues to grow we are undertaking a rigorous recruitment campaign across all areas of activity and we are especially targeting young people. We are offering apprenticeships in heavy vehicle mechanic, driving, warehouse and business & administration and can promise satisfying and rewarding career opportunities.

“The Apprenticeship Expo was an excellent event and we received excellent feedback from the attendees, the College and across social media platforms.
“We are absolutely delighted that Lauren has joined us and I’m hopeful that may more will follow.”

Lauren, who lives in Cullompton, added: "After 2 years at Exeter college learning vehicle maintenance and repair and vehicle technology I was unsuccessful in finding any type of work to do with vehicles until eventually after taking a different approach I applied for an apprenticeship at Gregory. Thankfully they have given me an opportunity to be part of the team. So I am now looking forward to starting in April"
