Exeter based signs and graphics specialists, Signs Express (Exeter), has been recognised as a finalist in the British Signs & Graphics Association (BSGA) Sign Awards for their Architectural project on behalf of The Leat Student Accommodation.

The commission included the provision of both internal and external architectural and wayfinding signage for the bespoke student accommodation which is set in historic buildings and includes the centrepiece, the Leat, which dates to the middle ages.
It was important that the signage created an industrial heritage feel and this was achieved by using three different metals; Stainless Steel, Corten Steel and aged Verdigris Copper. The prestigious and individually designed accommodation has been complemented by a 10 section multi-layered plaque in the three metals which was mounted using studs to the surface of a very irregular stone wall.

Signs Express (Exeter) worked from the client’s initial design concept, specification and designs to translate these into physical designs that could be laser-cut, aged and installed.

Nick Baxter-Sibley, co-owner of Signs Express (Exeter) said, “We loved being involved in this project as it enabled us to use creativity in our specification of the signage. We were able to provide a solution which perfectly complements the historic nature of the site and surrounding area and achieves the client’s aspiration and are delighted to receive national recognition for the work.”

Internally, vinyl-cut decals for walls and glazing graphics for internal wayfinding, all following the same concept, completed the look.

Signs Express (Exeter) were judged against hundreds of entries in the awards, which recognises the very best work completed in the sign industry. The British Sign Award winners will be announced on 8th November at a gala lunch in Leicester.
