PCE engineers gain DAB qualifications

All of Premier Communications Electronics’ (PCE) engineers have gained industry-recognised qualifications to carry out safe DAB upgrades to in-vehicle radios.

The Government is committed to a digital switchover and the car industry has joined the cause with around 40% of new vehicles fitted with digital radios.

However, they will be plenty of vehicles still using FM/AM radios. Their owners will need to install replacement DAB radios or upgrade their existing ones to prepare for the switchover.

The vehicle communications industry is primed for this event with an Institute of the Motor Industry’s Automotive Technical Award qualification that entitles installers to appear on the Government's register of approved installers.

All of PCE’s engineers have already achieved the Federation of Communication Services’ FITAS accreditation, which recognises their expertise in deploying in-vehicle communications solutions. They have recently taken an extra module to be eligible for Digital Tick status.

Karen Langley, PCE’s CEO, said: “Entrusting your DAB switchover to approved engineers is very important as a bad job can be very dangerous; potentially life-threatening.

“Our professional engineers spend hours every day installing radios, as well as tracker units, cameras, reversing sensors and many other electronic devices into vehicles. Our installation work includes mission-critical communications for emergency services vehicles and we always work under the FCS1362 code of practice to ensure we do a good job.”

She added: “We would advise anyone who needs their radio upgraded to DAB or needs a new radio installed to enlist the services of a Digital Tick-accredited installer.”
