A leading training provider is boosting awareness of the wide range of apprenticeship opportunities in the South West.

Positive Outcomes has apprenticeships available across sectors such as IT, business, property, customer services and retail.

During the Skills South West event, it held a competition to win £100 high street vouchers in an aim to draw attention to apprenticeships and what they offer.  The competition was very popular and was won by 14-year-old Sophie Sproston from Paignton who is shortly due to receive her £100 worth of high street vouchers.

The Government recognises the key part apprenticeships play in getting young people into work and encouraging a thriving economy and Positive Outcomes is keen to promote this and the important role apprenticeships play in training young people.  It is also keen to promote the fact that nine out of 10 apprenticeships then lead to a permanent, full-time job.

Chris Longmate, chief executive at Positive Outcomes, said: “Apprenticeships give young people the chance to earn while they learn.  Many are unaware of the range of apprenticeships on offer, how they lead to nationally recognised qualifications and are a genuine alternative to university or other post-16 qualifications.  Apprenticeships are a great start on the path to achieving career success – without getting into debt.

“Attending careers events is important for us as we want to raise awareness of the potential career paths young people can take by choosing an apprenticeship.”

Attendees at Skills Show South West had the chance to win £100 worth of high street vouchers by guessing how many bricks were used to build a house pictured at Positive Outcomes’ stand.

Winner Sophie Sproston, from Trelissick Road in Paignton, said: “I’m really pleased to have won the prize.  I didn’t even try and count the number of bricks – I guessed.  The number just came to me.  When they knew I had won the £100 voucher everyone at school asked if they could have it!”

Sophie’s mother Kim Sproston said:  “Sophie is really excited that she has won.  She’s looking forward to going on a shopping trip and spending the money on clothes.”

Chris Longmate, chief executive at Positive Outcomes, added: “The competition added a bit of fun to our presence at the event.  We’re delighted to hear how thrilled Sophie is to have won her prize.”
