Celebrating 10 years of Vision
Exeter business Vision is celebrating a milestone 10 years providing services in bespoke luxury home construction and renovation.
The company was set up in 2014 by Ross Pollard; already experienced in specifying and installing high quality kitchens and bathrooms he quickly took on more complex projects - including steam rooms and saunas - and the business grew from there.
Over the last 10 years Vision has completed more than 200 projects of varying size and complexity. They include the renovation of the entire ground floor of a house in Torquay and, for a Cowley home, the removal of an existing roof and installation of glass spanning the width of the roof to provide stunning views over the city of Exeter.
For Ross, one of the most memorable projects was the partial redevelopment of a fourteenth century farmhouse in Mid-Devon in 2021. Starting as a conversation about installing a new bath, the project turned into something far more complex, the construction of an upper floor extension with a lavishly designed spa room, steam room and treatment area, plus walk-in wardrobe.
He is equally proud of a current project just outside Exeter which Vision has been working on for over a year. “This one started as a low-key brief for an ensuite bathroom but has grown into a major house renovation. We’re not only working on the house but have also landscaped the substantial garden to create a really beautiful, social space. The job has provided plenty of challenges, but everyone is proud of the results and the client is delighted.”
Ross has built up an impressive team of skilled tradespeople, including tiler Richard Parker and electrician Sam Andrews, both of whom he has known for almost two decades, plus more recent partners and collaborators such as site manager Christian Daly. He’s also committed to encouraging young people into the business, taking on his first apprentice, Arron Mutter, in 2019. “Arron is still with us; he’s adapted well to lots of different projects and has learnt skills well beyond the original intentions. And we currently have two more apprentices on board from Exeter College.”
Although Vision has grown over the past 10 years to manage larger and more complicated work, Ross prefers to have just a handful of good-sized projects on the go so he can remain personally involved with each one. Along the way he has also taken on personal projects, renovating several houses, building his own family home in Exeter and developing a four-plot residential project in Clyst St Mary.
To mark this significant anniversary, the company is donating £250 to Hospiscare and £250 to Cancer Research. Ross says, “Sadly some very close friends of mine have needed the services of Hospiscare over the years and I’m keen to support this amazing local service.” He also feels that Cancer Research is doing incredible work in funding scientists, doctors and nurses to help beat cancer and provide crucial cancer information to the public.
The Vision team celebrated the milestone with a sumptuous meal out at Just Thai at Parrs Farm. Ross said: “From very humble beginnings in 2014 when it was just me and it was all a bit daunting, to 2024 when I have a great team around me, superb projects to work on and clients who love what I do, well I’d say that is ten years well spent.”
