Cornerstone completes move into purpose offices
Cornerstone has completed its move into striking new city centre offices. The eye-catching new building is in a prominent position on Western Way and will house Cornerstone’s head office team following a move from Southernhay East, where the housing association had been based for the last 70 years.
The move is a major milestone for the organisation and has been necessary to accommodate its continued growth and development. The office, built by Morgan Sindall and designed by Heighway Field Associates, features brick and glass curtain walling, while being sympathetic to the historic surrounding area.
Rick Williams, Chief Executive of Cornerstone said, “This move is a very significant step for us. We had outgrown our previous offices in Southernhay and we can now comfortably accommodate the team and continue to develop. We are Exeter’s largest housing association, so a highly visible and easily accessible city centre location is important to us.”
The building is triple the size of Cornerstone’s previous offices and the design has incorporated environmental considerations including air source heat pumps for the heating and bike racks to encourage staff to cycle.
The new building includes 1,400 sq ft of surplus office space which is now available for rent. The development also includes nine one bedroom flats at the adjoining Vicus House, providing affordable homes in a central location for local people. Tenants moved into the flats in December.
