Exeter Business Takes Fitness Seriously
An Exeter-based marketing agency is trialling a new system to increase the physical activity of their staff, with the aim of boosting the overall wellness of the company.
Managers at Big Wave Media are hoping that by tracking their physical activity using MyZone, the team will become more conscious of their fitness.
MyZone is a heart-rate based system that uses wireless and cloud technology to accurately and conveniently monitor physical activity. Employees of Big Wave Media have each been given a heart rate monitor to wear while they’re exercising. When they bring the monitor into the office, it wirelessly uploads the data of their workout to the member of staff’s MyZone profile.
Managing Director of Big Wave Media, Mark Lee, said: “We work very closely with the Leisure and Fitness industry and are always keen to keep up-to-date with products our clients are using.”
“We hope to use the system to set fitness challenges for our staff, with rewards for reaching targets. The incentives will introduce an element of competition and encourage the employees to take part, keeping our team fit and healthy.”
Each member of staff’s MyZone profile records each workout they log, with statistics of heart rate, calorie consumption and MyZone effort points or MEPs, which use the data to show how much effort is being put in by the exerciser.
System administrators are able to set challenges for the users, such as first person to reach a certain number of MEPs, or most MEPs accumulated in a month.
The MyZone system also includes a set of state-of-the-art Tanita scales, which measure body fat as well as weight. This data can be added to the MyZone profile, allowing users to set weight loss goals and track progress.
Mr Lee added: “We hope that installing the MyZone system and placing an emphasis on company fitness and wellbeing will make Big Wave Media an even more positive place to work.”
