Exeter solicitor celebrates 35 years
Exeter-based solicitor Andy Harris is celebrating his 35th anniversary at Veitch Penny solicitors this month.
Crediton born Andy joined Veitch Penny in 1979 after a chance meeting in Exeter with his childhood friend and ex next-door neighbour, Michael Penny. Andy had just returned from qualifying in Bristol and was heading to a job interview when he bumped into his old friend in the High Street. It turned out Michael was in the process of opening a new office in Exeter and looking for someone to join him.
35 years later Andy is still there - now a long term partner and head of litigation!
Andy has specialised in personal injury law throughout his career and has a particular expertise with clients suffering traumatic psychological and life changing injuries. He says the most rewarding aspect of his career has been helping people whose lives have been severely affected by an accident to get back on track with the help of appropriate financial compensation. The largest case he was involved in resulted in a financial settlement of over £4.5million.
A keen motorcyclist, Andy also regularly represents fellow riders throughout the country. He was a founder panel member of the British Motorcylists Federation’s “Biker Legal Line” and is a long serving Trustee of the Institute of Advanced Motorists’ charity "Devon Advanced Motorcyclists". He chairs Devon & Somerset Law Society's contentious business sub-committee.
Andy has seen many changes to the legal profession but most of all laments the change in culture regarding personal injury claims. He sees a shift from a protective society that supports the innocent, to one which seems bent on limiting the injured victim's legitimate rights.
Andrew has no plans to ride off into the sunset just yet and is looking forward to helping many more clients to get the outcome they deserve. He comments: “I have been privileged to work with some wonderful clients and great colleagues during my time at Veitch Penny and am proud to have been of service.”
Veitch Penny has offices in Exeter and Crediton.
