John Lewis Exeter offers permanent roles to 121 temporary workers

John Lewis Exeter has today announced that all Partners (staff) recruited on a temporary basis when the shop opened have secured permanent positions.

Following an extremely positive response from customers during a busy Christmas trading period, the 121 who worked across a number of departments in the shop have been offered permanent roles.

Kate Connock, branch manager, John Lewis Exeter said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to offer all the 121 temporary Partners we recruited at opening permanent positions. The success of John Lewis Exeter has been due to the positive response from the Devon and Cornwall customer. The service offered by my Partners and the assortments that we have brought to life have captured the imagination of customers. I’m thrilled that we can reward those new staff in this way. I look forward to working closely with them as they continue to develop skills and carve out a career in retail.”

Dave Hallett joined John Lewis Exeter’s stock management department and has been offered a permanent position.

Dave said: “I originate from the Exeter area but for the past 11 years my wife and I have been living in Cornwall. I was made redundant and we then made the decision to return to Exeter and be closer to our families. John Lewis was advertising for roles at its new shop and having worked in retail since I was 16 years old, it felt like a natural fit to apply.

“It was a risk taking on a temporary position whilst relocating but I am pleased to say it paid off. I am over the moon that I have become a permanent Partner and can carry on the job I love doing. On receiving the news I felt like I had regained my independence, I was able to apply for a mortgage, and now my wife and I have been able to buy our own home in Exeter. Once the sale is complete we will be moving out of her parents' house and can begin a new chapter in our lives.”

The John Lewis recruitment team is committed to training Partners to achieve the highest level of customer service and build upon John Lewis’s established reputation as one of Britain’s favourite retailers.

Located on Sidwell Street in Exeter city centre, John Lewis Exeter is the retailer’s first flexible format department shop and offers the full John Lewis assortment including fashion, beauty, consumer electronics, home and nursery.
