The January 31 tax deadline was a more positive experience for a number of local businesses who gained significant savings after signing up to an innovative new service.

Launched by Exeter business specialist accountants The Fresh Accountancy Company in 2024, the ‘no risk’ tax planning service is designed to help clients make genuine savings. It proved to be a success for the first clients to sign up, as they saved an impressive £1,021,000 between them.

The Fresh Accountancy Company charges a set monthly fee for the service, which is based on the client’s turnover, but if the service doesn’t live up to expectations, the client doesn’t lose out. Fresh’s Founder Tom Baker explains, “As these initial clients discovered, the savings can far outweigh the fee – and we are so confident that we will find tax savings that if we don’t, this fee is fully refundable.”

The service starts with a comprehensive review where Fresh’s tax experts look at all areas of the client’s business, finding areas where potential savings can be made, for example making sure any expenditure is timed correctly to maximise tax benefits.

“It might sound too good to be true, but there's no devious accounting involved! All our tax planning advice is HMRC-compliant. We find savings because we know tax inside out - and we love a challenge.”

As well as researching savings, the service includes the full scope of tax planning, such as annual detailed tax reports; annual pre-year-end tax planning meetings to help maximise tax savings; and ongoing consultation to ensure future tax efficiency.

“We’re delighted that the first clients to subscribe to the service had such a positive outcome. While we believe that businesses should pay the tax they owe, quite a few are actually paying more than they need to. And, especially in the current tough economic climate, this can have a real impact on the future of a business.”

The ‘no win no fee’ style of the service makes this a risk free option. If the tax-saving options don’t equal or exceed the fees, Fresh will refund the difference. Where savings are found, the fee includes implementing them.

The Fresh Accountancy Company provides accountancy services to over 200 clients from a variety of sectors mostly within a 25-mile radius of Exeter, with 10-50 employees and turnover of between £1M to £4M.
