Royal Warrant Holder - Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company is on a quest to support local farmers and strengthen the sustainability of their business,  collaborating with Devon Duvets on their new upcoming range.

Amanda Oldfield founded the Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company, a family-run business with its headquarters on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, more than 20 years ago after  realising how simple it is to be duped into purchasing poor furniture for your home.

A Carbon Neutral company and long-standing Made in Britain member. The business prioritises sustainability, working with farmers, and handcrafting its products from 100% British-sourced raw materials. However, after researching the ethical standards of select third-party suppliers, they decided to devote even more time and energy to their environmentally friendly goal by severing ties and producing all of their products with their exceptional team of artisans, using locally sourced materials.

This is in anticipation of their beautiful upcoming line of handcrafted bedding, which will be debuting in September and is an expansion of their well-received Sandringham Wool collection, which debuted in April 2023. The authenticity and traceability of their prior line, The Sandringham Wool Collection, also received high accolades.

Working with the Sandringham Estate, the limited collection of wool mattresses could be linked back to the farms at Sandringham and, more significantly, to the specific wool bale. Collaborating with fellow Made in Britain member - Devon Duvets - the team is working hard to expand their Sandringham Wool Collection with a new line of fully traceable wool bedding.

However, Devon Duvets were not chosen randomly to create this exclusive collection.

Amanda Oldfield, founder of Wrought Iron Brass Bed Company, explains the reason behind selecting the brand to work with on this collection: “Stephen and I founded Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company with a core focus on authenticity, transparency, and quality of craftsmanship.

"We prioritise sourcing raw materials from the British Isles to ensure minimal distances our materials travel. To stay true to our values, we needed to collaborate with a fellow British manufacturer that shared the same standards. We discovered that our two-family companies were incredibly complementary.

"We decided to partner with Devon Duvets due to the quality of craftsmanship and the creation of products by hand in their Devon workshops. We both share the values of being members of the Made in Britain association, which lets customers know they are buying genuine British-made products with assurance and clarity.”

Pauline Beijen, Co-Founder and Director of Devon Duvets, also expresses their excitement for the  partnership and talks about the synergy between the brands. “We founded Devon Duvets on our  commitment to helping British sheep farmers, who for many years were struggling to sell their fleeces for a fair price.

"We have always used British wool in our products, as well as British mills to clean and prepare our wool without the use of chemicals. Our products are 100% British made and individually  handcrafted by our professional seamstresses in our Devon workshops.

"So, we’re absolutely delighted  to be working with the Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company, who share so many of our values, including supporting our hard-working farmers, sustainability, ethical sourcing, and craftsmanship. We hope that this exciting collaboration will help to increase awareness of British wool, which has been valued for its quality for over two thousand years.”

British wool farmers are facing difficulties, unlike anything they have ever encountered, due to the need for more demand for British wool fleece. They suffer from both economic and environmental effects. However, businesses like Wrought Iron Brass Bed Company and Devon Duvets hope to start a new trend by using British farms as sustainable sources for these materials. Encouraging other businesses to use local suppliers and follow the value of Wrought Iron Brass Bed Company and Devon Duvets are both members of Made in Britain, which brings together nearly 2,000 SME manufacturers across the UK by their licensed use of the Made in Britain mark, denoting truly British provenance.

John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain, was very excited to hear of the collaboration between two highly esteemed members. “This collaboration between two pioneering British brands marks a step forward  for sustainable manufacturing in the home and living sector. Wrought Iron Brass Bed Company, a firm driven by its ethical values and environmental commitments, had struggled to find a British bedding  brand manufacturing its products in the UK before finding the perfect partner in Devon Duvets. All  Made in Britain license holders undergo a verification and compliance process before they can licence  the mark - so, businesses and consumers can have peace of mind when they see the mark on a product  that the product has been manufactured in the UK," said Made in Britain CEO John Pearce.

This new and exciting expansion of the current Sandringham Collection by Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company will launch in late September 2023. Collaborating with fellow Made in Britain Member Devon Duvets- this collection will allow consumers to enjoy the luxurious comfort of authentic- British made, British wool bedding.
