Three new joiners at Exeter environmental firm
Three consultants, all experts in their fields, have joined the Exeter office of leading environmental firm, SLR Consulting. The move helps to extend the company’s capabilities to clients across the South West – especially on flood-related environmental issues – an area that has seen significant increase following last year’s floods.
Chartered Civil Engineer Ian Walton has joined the hydrology and hydrogeology team as a Technical Director. Ian has over 30 years’ experience and is tasked with further developing the company’s hydrology service offering.
With an MSc in Hydrology for Environmental Management, Ian’s key area of expertise is flood risk assessment and developing mitigation and alleviation strategies. He has previously been involved in a diverse range of projects in this area, including major residential, highway, education, commercial and industrial schemes.
Ian has also completed a number of flood alleviations studies for Local Authorities, Drainage Boards and the Environment Agency, with one alleviation scheme winning an Institution of Civil Engineers Award.
Principal Stuart Choak’s appointment expands the Exeter’s office capabilities adding Highways and Transportation services, including Transport Planning.
Stuart has previously worked with clients including; pension investment and asset managers, numerous town planners and architects, as well as individual developers. He has provided technical support on a range of development projects, from retail to residential, to leisure and tourism, and commercial schemes.
Stuart’s recent projects in the South West have included transport proposals for major food retailer stores in Exeter, Tavistock, Plymouth and Truro; developments of new caravan/chalet parks in Devon and Cornwall and major town centre regeneration projects in south Cornwall.
Helen Smart has joined SLR’s Exeter team as Senior Archaeologist, with over eight years’ experience in the heritage sector, having worked as a consultant, contractor and curator.
She has extensive knowledge of the South West’s heritage and of national planning policy – especially in relation to the historic environment aspects of strategic and local planning policy in Devon.
Helen has a wealth of fieldwork experience and has worked on a wide range of sites dating from various periods. She is also involved with outreach work and is the Publicity and Outreach/Field Meetings Officer for Devon Archaeological Society.
SLR’s Exeter team, based in Polsloe Road, encompasses ecologists, noise consultants, hydrologists/hydrogeologists, land quality and contaminated land experts. Local clients include Devon County Council, CG Fry & Son, ICE Renewables, Agrivert and Viridor.
