Calling all cycling enthusiasts!
Keep your eyes peeled for a rally of cyclists who next month will cycle a grueling 240 miles starting in Guildford and finishing three days later at Saunton Sands beach in Braunton, North Devon. Each cyclist will be sponsored with the profits being donated to Surf Mobility, a charity that provides surfing experiences for children with physical disabilities.
Riders are confirmed for the first two days of the route, Guildford to Bournemouth and on to Exeter but the charity are on a ‘shout out’ for any cyclists who would like to join in the last 80 miles from Exeter to Saunton Sands, the home of the Surf Mobility. Neil Summerfield the charity’s Chairman stated, ‘We are delighted with the uptake which includes our ambassador and
North Devon’s Big Wave Surfer, Andrew Cotton in the team. He along with his personal fitness trainer Andrew Blake will complete the third day of the event. We want to include as many cyclists as possible to join in the fun on the last day, Sunday 26th June.’
The event is fully supported and aims to raise funds for much needed specialist surf equipment in order to host surfing lessons and scholarships.
Surf Mobility last year conducted an extremely successful trial which saw 6 volunteers experience the waves. Some of the children were feeling the sand between their toes, and the sea for the first time ever.
This year it aims to continue the sterling work. Local surfing specialists Walking On Waves headed up by Sarah Whiteley, herself a British and European champion support the charity and provide the instructors and expertise. Couple this with the beautiful haven that is Saunton Sands, means that children will receive the best tuition in the most stunning and safe surroundings.
Anyone would like to get involved in cycling the last 80 miles which should contact Ted Bright of Bright Cycles via their website www.brightcycles.co.uk or email info@brightcycles.co.uk. A donation fee of £40.00 per rider is requested.
