Charity’s members save on eating out at Buffet City

An Exeter restaurant is offering members of Devon charity Devon in Sight a tasty 25 per cent off the cost of their meals.

Buffet City in George Street is also extending the offer to members’ friends, family and carers as long as they eat at the same time.

Andy Lin, manager of Buffet City, said: “Since we opened three years ago we have always supported local charities, as a local business we like to give back to the community.

“If everyone did the same the world would be a better place! We’re always delighted to be able to support local good causes.”

Devon in Sight supports thousands of people with visual impairments across the county, but anyone can be a member, which costs just £12 a year. So just joining the charity could pay for itself after one meal with a few friends at Buffet City.

Members of Devon in Sight have recently been able to enjoy half-price entry to Powderham Castle thanks to the generosity of the charity’s patron Lady Devon, and they also get a free quarterly newsletter, Vision Matters, and can vote at the charity’s annual meeting.

The charity’s fundraiser Christina Zheng said: “We’re delighted that Buffet City have so generously decided to support Devon in Sight with this fantastic offer. We get no funding from the government, so rely heavily on the generosity of supporters and members to fund our vital work.

“Joining Devon in Sight is a great way to support a local charity, and with this superb offer from Buffet City, if you like to eat out every now and again in Exeter then you could save money all year long. You can’t lose!”

To qualify for the 25 per cent discount, members of the charity just have to present some form of identification along with the letter they received when they joined or renewed their membership. The offer lasts until the end of 2013, and applies to meals only, not drinks.

 The Devon in Sight resource centre at Station House, Topsham, is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm to help people with visual impairments. The charity also runs low-vision clinics and drop-in sessions to demonstrate how the latest technology can help with day-to-day tasks.
