Exeter Philharmonic Choir presented a cheque for £1,875 towards Exeter Leukaemia Fund’s Chevithorne Appeal.

The money was raised from the ‘retiring collection’ of two carol concerts held at Exeter Cathedral last year.

Christine Burns from the choir, said: “We were delighted to hand over this amount, and we’re very grateful, as always, for the generosity of our audiences.”

The choir supports a different local charity each year. They chose the Chevithorne Appeal for its importance to people of Exeter and beyond who are coping with the emotional as well as the physical effects of leukaemia.

“We are incredibly grateful for this fantastic amount raised and all of the support in helping us with our mission to support more families in Devon," explained Natalie Searle, community fundraiser at ELF. She said:

“The Chevithorne Appeal will raise £420,000 to fund a suite of rooms for patients and their families so that they can be together whilst still receiving the tailored medical care at the hospital. Family members can sleep within the suite in a separate bedroom and will have home comforts to make their stay as “normal” as possible all within the Haematology Ward, at the RD&E.”

Exeter Philharmonic Choir will be singing at the Cathedral again on March 12, when they will be performing a sea themed concert featuring pieces by Vaughan Williams and Mendelssohn, as well as the debut of a brand new work by Andrew Millington, former musical director at the Cathedral.
