Everys Solicitors will be backing School in a Bag at the firm’s chosen charity for the next two years.
Having already raised money for the charity by cycling between Everys’ Devon and Somerset branches in July this year, the firm has now dedicated its fundraising efforts to School in the Bag for 2014 and 2015.

School in a Bag helps poor, orphaned, vulnerable and disaster-affected children throughout the world. It is part of the Piers Simon Appeal that makes financial contributions to the victims of disasters. Piers Simon was killed in the 2004 Boxing Day Indian Ocean tsunami and the charity was set up by his family.

Each rucksack is filled with stationery, learning resources and eating utensils that will enable a child to write, draw, colour, calculate, express themselves and learn.

Everys’ extended relationship with the charity was marked with the packing of 12 of the 146 bags that the firm has already paid for. These have been shipped out to complement the relief effort currently taking place in the Philippines.

Bruce Brooker, Everys’ commercial director, said: “Each bag costs £15 and we are delighted to have already paid for 146, but we want to fund more. School in a Bag has delivered bags to more than 41,000 children in 17 countries in South America, Africa and Asia and if we can help sustain that activity then I feel we will have invested in something very worthwhile.”

Everys is planning another cycle challenge for 2014, as well as a black tie dinner, cricket match and barbecue, and a wine tasting evening to raise extra funds, involving staff from all seven of its West Country branches.

Piers’ brother Luke Simon, the charity liaison officer for School in a Bag, said: “Everys has always been very enthusiastic about our charity and its work. The firm and its staff have already been a pleasure to work with and we are delighted and grateful that they have selected us as their chosen charity for the next few years.”
