Everything is ship-shape for Exeter charity Dream-A-Way
Dream-A-Way is extremely proud to be one of the chosen charities of the Royal Navy’s latest type 45 Destroyer HMS Defender.
The commissioning of the ship took place in Portsmouth on March 21st 2013 and was attended by trustees and committee members of Dream-A-Way, the charity which provides holidays and outings for people with disabilities and their carers across Devon and Cornwall.
The service included a general salute, inspection by Lady Massey (ship’s sponsor), hoisting of the White Ensign, a fly past by the Royal Air Force and singing of hymns. This was followed by a magnificent buffet and cutting of the cake, which was thankfully in a warm marquee!
The Dream-A-Way representatives were presented with a superb book to commemorate the occasion and this was signed by Vice Admiral Philip Jones CB, Fleet Commander and Commander Philip Nash, Ship’s Captain.
The charity’s Chairman Jeff Merrett said “We will enjoy an excellent partnership with the ship’s crew and will welcome them to Dream-A-Way events whenever they are able to attend. We hope to welcome some of the crew to our display at the Devon County Show 16th to 18th May 2013 where we are the Charity of the Year.”
