Exeter accountants buy a video laryngoscope for Devon Air Ambulance
Fundraisers at chartered accountants Francis Clark have handed over £4,000 to Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT) to buy a specialist piece of life-saving equipment.
The money, which was raised in a variety of ways including a charity golf day, sponsorship, dress-down days, raffles, bake-offs, book sales and donations, has gone to buying a video laryngoscope, which provides a high definition image of a patient’s airways. Tracheal intubation using a laryngoscope is a commonly practiced technique, which secures the respiratory passage in instances where the trachea is blocked. DAAT air crew paramedics estimate that the new video laryngoscope could be used as much as three times or more in the course of a normal week.
Francis Clark partner Glenn Nicol was shown around the DAAT airbase at Middlemoor by Caroline Creer, DAAT’s Director of Fundraising, and paramedic Richard Walker who demonstrated how the video laryngoscope will be used.
Glenn Nicol said: “We were delighted to raise this money for such a worthwhile cause with it being used to buy a video laryngoscope. This was specifically chosen by the medical air crew based on what will help them in performing the fantastic job that they do.”
Caroline Creer added: “We are very grateful to Francis Clark who have been great supporters of the Charity for many years. The video laryngoscope will help the aircrew provide even better patient care and they are delighted to receive such a generous gift. Corporate support such as this really does make a huge difference.”
