Exeter firms cycle to the finish to raise vital funds for local Adoption charity

National Adoption week saw local Exeter based WSP challenge fellow firm Parsons Brinckerhoff to the ultimate static cycle race to raise awareness and much needed funds to support families who have adopted in Exeter.

Over the course of a day early this month, members of both WSP Exeter, and Parsons Brinckerhoff took part in a static bike race in the centre of Princesshay shopping centre to see which firm could cycle the furthest.

WSP were the victors cycling 192km to Parsons Brinkerhoff’s 168km.

Over £400 was raised on the day which has been donated to Families for Children Adoption Agency to be able to continue providing the vital support needed for families who have adopted in Exeter and across the South West.

The work they do ranges from simple advice and telephone support to more complex therapeutic support, respite and counselling.In the mists of this friendly office rivalry, local celebrity chef and patron of the charity Michael Caine’s OBE stepped onto the platform to also so his support for the charity and indeed go the distance!

A huge thanks goes to local fitness centre, Fitness First who have kindly supplied the static bikes which were used.

Jeremy Penfold, WSP senior technical director said: “The team thoroughly enjoyed getting on their bikes to race our friends at Parsons Brinckerhoff! This was a fantastic way to raise awareness for an extremely worthwhile charity.

Families for Children need £300,000 every year to support local children.  WSP is a long-time supporter of the charity so we hope we did them proud in Princesshay.”
