Princesshay announce new charity partnership
Princesshay is pleased to announce Dream-A-Way as its charity partner for 2014.
Committed to supporting local charities and organisations, Princesshay will be working with Dream-A-Way throughout the year on special events and fundraising activities.
Dream-A-Way is an Exeter based charity providing holidays and day trips to people living in Devon, Cornwall and the Scilly Isles with physical and learning difficulties, whether it is fulfilling a lifetime dream, experiencing great opportunities or just having a break from daily routines. Over 15,000 people have benefited from Dream-A-Way holidays since the launch of the charity in 1993.
Wayne Pearce, Princesshay Centre Director said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Dream-A-Way this year. We look forward to helping raise the awareness of this brilliant charity and of course helping to fundraise as much as possible through various events and initiatives in the centre. As part of the ongoing charity partnership, I’m also proud to announce that the Princesshay team will be volunteering hours to Dream-A-Way.”
Dream-A-Way celebrates their 21st anniversary in 2014 and to kick start the celebrations the Princesshay management team have put on their walking boots and taken part in a sponsored 21 laps of Princesshay Shopping Centre.
Jeff Merrett, MBE, Chairman of Dream-A-Way said: “We are both honoured and delighted to have been chosen as the charity of the year for Princesshay. We very much look forward to working with them. This amazing opportunity will enable us to interact with visitors to the centre and raise our profile within the city. We feel this will be extremely beneficial for our charity, and will also bring us into contact with many families who may possibly be able to benefit from our support in the future.”
January also saw the start of Sam Blythe and Shane Kingsland’s Janurow. The duo has pledged to individually row one million metres on a rowing machine in January to raise money for their chosen charities including Dream-A-Way. Collectively with the public they are aiming to row 11,180,113m, which equates to rowing from Exeter to the Philippines.
Jeff Merrett of Dream-A-Away is also participating in Janurow and to raise money for his charity.
Sam Blythe, Janurow said: “We are aiming to raise the profile of Janurow sufficiently to make it an annual event, to involve many others and to benefit two fantastic charities including Dream-A-Way. January is the perfect month for a physical challenge. We encourage everyone to give it a go and pledge a distance to row. The newly formed charity partnership will see an action packed calendar of fundraising events throughout the centre in 2014.
