The partnership between the MS Society and Land Securities, who jointly own Princesshay together with The Crown Estate, has raised more than £7,500.

The partnership with Princesshay began in the spring of 2012 and since then, the MS Society has been actively fundraising and raising the awareness of the charity at various events held in Princesshay. The MS Society is the leading national charity committed to beating MS – more than 100,000 people are living with the condition in the UK. MS affects almost three times as many women as men and people are usually diagnosed in their 20s and  30s.

The national charity celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2013 with a Challenge60 campaign which aimed to raise £250,000 nationally in 60 days to fund vital research. As part of the celebrations members of the Princesshay team wore bright orange wigs for the local fundraising event Wig-i-ty 60. The event assisted in raising money and the awareness of the MS Society’s Challenge60 fundraising event. Security guards, car park attendants, cleaners and centre management staff all took part and contributed to the final total of £235,332.

The annual Cake Break fundraising event encouraged people to invite friends, family and colleagues to get together and donate to enjoy a slice of cake.

Exciting times were had by all at the Halloween abseil. Descending 80 feet from the top of Princesshay car park in fancy dress was a great success with retailers, suppliers and members of the public all getting involved.

Wayne Pearce, Princesshay Centre Director said, “It’s been a privilege to support the MS Society throughout 2012 and 2013. We had lots of fun taking part in the events, I particularly enjoyed the firewalk in 2012 and the abseil at the end of last year. We’re thrilled that the partnership has resulted in raising a fantastic sum of money and we wish them well with their new partnerships for 2014 and beyond.”

Andy Jarrett, Area Fundraiser for the MS Society said, “It has been a real pleasure working with Land Securities and in particular Princesshay. We are delighted with the amount we raised in our second year. I am also pleased to announce that we have recruited a new local Chairman who will now lead the team and help the branch move forward and assist in further fundraising activities in and around Exeter.”
