The co-educational independent school for pupils aged 7-18 is winner of the 2013 Good Schools Guide Award for Excellence for Boys taking AS Level Physics and the 2013 Good Schools Guide Award for Excellence for Girls taking AS Level World Development.

This is the sixth year in a row that Exeter School has received an award for excellence in Science and the fifth award for World Development.

Every year, the Good Schools Guide gives awards to schools to celebrate teaching excellence in individual subjects, basing these awards on WOW Factor calculations which are a combination of relative popularity, relative performance, absolute performance and percentage taking.

Head of Physics and Director of Science at Exeter School, Graham Bone said: “We are passionate about Physics education for all our boys and girls, and we are delighted to have received this award from the Good Schools Guide. Everyone involved - teaching staff, technicians and the pupils themselves - should all be proud of their achievements.

“As a Physics department we really excited about collaborating with other local schools and teaching colleagues as part of the Exeter and East Devon Ogden Physics Partnership and serving as a link school for the Institute of Physics’ Stimulating Physics Network.

“Working together we hope to continue to develop the Exeter and East Devon area as a national beacon of excellence in Physics education.

World Development teacher and former Head of Geography John Davidson said: “The girls enjoyed looking at the variations in development between different countries and different ethnic and social groups and discussing in class this issues involved.

“They put considerable effort into their individual research comparing both the causes of poverty and the different strategies used to alleviate the problem around the world.”
