New film provides insight into the lives of pupils at Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education
Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education has launched a promotional film showcasing its school. Aimed at prospective students, parents and funders, the film provides an insight into the daily life of pupils at the Academy.
Created by Inside Job Productions and directed by deaf film-maker Samuel Dore, the film features parents, grandparents, pupils and teachers, who share their experiences of Academy life.
Parents talk about how the Academy meets individual students’ needs and enables children to thrive among a supportive network of friends and professional staff. Meanwhile, Academy teachers explain how a kinaesthetic approach of education through doing rather than just learning from books enables the children to fulfil their potential.
The eight-minute film includes illustrations created by children at the Academy, which have been brought to life through animation by Sacha Austin.
Exeter Deaf Academy Marketing Manager Joanna Bowery says: “We are hugely excited to launch this film, which will enable viewers to get a real insight into what the Academy offers to Deaf children. We know that the earlier a child is placed at the Deaf Academy, the higher attainment they achieve and the greater progress they will make. We wanted to show not only this, but the additional support our students get whether that is peer support from their classmates and friends or the professional support they access through the Academy’s specialist staff including educational audiologists, speech and language therapists, British Sign Language (BSL) instructors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and student mentors.”
