Record breaking results for Exeter School

Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating a record year for A Level results with an overall pass rate of 100% for the twelfth year in a row.

24% of all grades were A*, a record 68% of grades were either A* or A and a record 92% of all grades were A*, A or B.

50 pupils - over half of Exeter School’s Upper Sixth - achieved three or more A*/A grades this summer .

For the first time in Exeter School’s history, a pupil has succeeded in achieving an A*in five A Level subjects. Upper Sixth Former Seb Wright goes on to read Physics and Philosophy at Brasenose College, Oxford.

Head Boy and 1st XI Cricket Captain Marcus Hoddinott scored four A* grades and has secured his place to read Engineering at Hertford College, Oxford.

James Spiers also gained four A* grades and goes on to read Physics at Imperial College London.

Among the high achievers, there were 8 who secured three A* grades each.

These top scorers are 2014 David W. Smith Memorial Essay Prize winner Will Nicolle (Geography at Jesus College), Deputy Head Girl Charlotte Stacey (Veterinary Medicine at Royal Veterinary College London), Gaby Bridger (Medicine at Barts London Medical School), Hannah Connolly (English Literature at Durham) James Krafft (Aerospace Engineering at Bath), Ed Whelan (applying to read Engineering) Kate Ledgard (post A Level medic applicant) and Lloyd Stait (Mathematics at Bristol).

Exeter School is proud of its medics, Grace Poole (Medicine at St George’s London), Senior Prefect Sarah Hardie (Medicine at Cardiff University) and Marcus Colville (Medicine at Newcastle) for securing their places.

Musician Fionn Connolly, who recently composed and performed in his own composition Ring on Ring for Exeter School’s Choral Society concert held at Exeter Cathedral, goes on to read Music at Sidney Sussex, Cambridge.

Headmaster Bob Griffin said “We are very pleased with this record set of A Level results from a hard-working and accomplished year group who have enjoyed their studying alongside a plethora of extra-curricular activities.

"These achievements are testament to the dedication and commitment of our pupils, parents and staff. The majority of our pupils have secured places at their first choice of university, mainly in the Russell group.”
