Schools take part in RWC team scarecrow competition
To celebrate Exeter’s Host City status in the Rugby World Cup, Princesshay has invited eight local schools from across Exeter and surrounding villages to take part in its Rugby Team Scarecrow competition.
Each school has been designated a team which is playing at Sandy Park in the Rugby World Cup, plus England, South Africa and Wales. Pupils have been set a challenge to use that team’s colours to fashion a bright and colourful decorative scarecrow to represent their chosen team.
Andy Littlejohns, operations manager at Princesshay said: “We wanted to become involved with the dressing of the city and thought this would be a fun way to do it. Having local primary schools involved with the children decorating scarecrows in team colours means that they can be part of this once in a life time event.”
The scarecrows will be situated at various locations around Princesshay during the Rugby World Cup period for visitors to enjoy.
Mandie Rose, class 4 teacher Clyst St Mary Primary School; said: “This has been a fantastic project for the children, covering many elements of the curriculum. The class have had an amazing time creating their scarecrow which they’ve named Jamie Rhys. The children even wrote to the Welsh rugby union to let them know of their project. In return they sent an official Welsh kit for their scarecrow to wear!”
The school with the best dressed scarecrow will win a £50 Princesshay Gift Card.
