Staff and pupils at Beer Primary School are celebrating their second successive outstanding inspection report.

The last time inspectors from the school standards agency, Ofsted, visited Beer they judged the primary school as outstanding.

Now a new inspection by the Diocese of Exeter of the Church of England school has also pronounced it outstanding.

And, in a third success, the Puffins Pre-School has also been rated as good with outstanding features by Ofsted.

To celebrate, the new Bishop of Exeter, The Right Revd Robert Atwell, visited the school and presented a certificate recording its outstanding judgement.

The Church of England inspector praised the school’s strong emphasis on  Christian values which he said made a significant contribution to the children’s well-being and spiritual development.

Executive Headteacher Martin O’Mahony said: “This is a great achievement for the school and also for the Ark Federation.

“The community of Beer has much to celebrate this week.”

In its report on the Puffins Pre-School, Ofsted said: “Excellent partnerships with parents and professionals enable staff to meet individual needs within a welcoming and stimulating environment.

“Staff help to prepare children very well for school by encouraging their independent skills and through effective links with school staff.”

Pre-school leader Natalie Puddicombe said: “We are incredibly proud of our Ofsted report and it reflects the hard work of the staff and committee in ensuring the best possible education for our children.

“I am really pleased with how the transition into the primary school was an aspect that was celebrated, along with the strength of the parent partnership.“
