Exeter School to stage show in new-look hall

The latest phase of improvements to Exeter School has now come to an end with the inauguration of the enlarged dining hall and its smart copper-clad façade.

The newly extended School Hall will be used to its full capacity this week with the Senior School Production of ‘An Italian Straw Hat’ running 28 – 30 November.

Over the past 18 months, the Exeter School Governors have expressed their confidence in the vibrant future by investing well over £2m in providing enhanced facilities across the whole School.

The exciting new Atrium extension to the Junior School, opened last January, was the first in a range of developments: this has made it the right size to house over 200 pupils and 15 staff. The Music School has been completely refurbished and expanded by nearly 50% including a new hall.

The large Sixth Form now has a well-equipped, purpose-designed, open-plan centre, providing improved study and recreation facilities together with a small kitchen offering break and lunchtime snacks and drinks. The Art Department has an airy, modernistic new studio including an Art Gallery.

New classrooms have been added to the Daw Building and the Sports Department has a new free-weights room.

Finally, the extension of the Dining Hall has allowed for more leisurely lunchtimes as well as enabling the full Senior School and staff to gather in one place for assemblies.

Headmaster Bob Griffin said: “These latest enhancements have been accomplished without the need for any borrowing, and have been funded from the School’s existing reserves gathered over several years. “They now provide ample space and improved comfort for the school of over 900 that we expect to be for the foreseeable future.”

A period of consolidation now follows, with a steady programme of refurbishing classrooms and buildings over the next few years, to keep the estate in peak condition.
