King's School Head Faith Jarrett receives SW Headteacher of the Year Award

Faith Jarrett from The King's School in Ottery St Mary has been announced as the SW regional winner of the Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School Award in the 2013 Pearson Teaching Awards.

Faith was nominated for this Award by her colleagues who said:

"Faith Jarrett was appointed to the post of Headteacher at The King's School in April 2004. We are in no doubt that she is one of the most inspirational, committed, passionate and hard working Headteachers you could ever meet. Her belief in the potential of every young person and her absolute commitment to inclusive education make her stand out above her peers. She lives this belief out on a day to day basis, always making decisions based on a clear sense of moral purpose. What has made her, and therefore the school, outstanding has been her ability to take all stakeholders with her in the mission to create a school community which is confident and self assured but also reflective, caring and passionate about improving personal and academic outcomes for young people. All this is done in order to improve the life chances of the students who attend the school. She leads by example, often going well above and beyond what would be expected to ensure that students, parents and staff are treated fairly and with respect. We are incredibly fortunate to have her as our Headteacher!"

Judged by top education professionals who know good teaching, many of them past Teaching Award winners, the Pearson Teaching Awards provides the perfect opportunity to champion exceptional teaching professionals across the UK. The seven local awards panels include members of the local education community and each one is chaired by a leading figure in education.

Rod Bristow, Chair of the UK judging panel, says "The 250 judges work on a voluntary basis and judging is an independent and peer-led process. The majority of the panel members are practising teachers and many are Teaching Award winners.  The panels also include representation from organisations across the educational spectrum.  We are grateful to these dedicated professionals who give their time to ensure a smooth and credible process for those involved and to help celebrate the amazing people who work in our schools."

This year's star studded awards will be hosted by Clare Balding, meanwhile new ambassador Anna Friel will be presenting the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award. Watch on BBC2 on Sunday 28 October at 5:25pm to see if Faith has been successful in achieving the national accolade.
