Year 11 prepare for the sixth form
Exeter School, one of the South West’s leading co-educational independent schools, pays tribute to Year 11 pupils on their excellent results, the first cohort since 2019 to sit traditional GCSE exams following COVID19.
The school community are celebrating the tremendous achievements of our Year 11 pupils, which saw more than a third of all grades scored at a nine, the highest possible award.
Despite facing various challenges to their education throughout the pandemic pupils have shone, with 81% of grades awarded being 9-7.
Four pupils, two boys and two girls have achieved eleven grade 9 GCSEs each including Oscar who was runner up in a prestigious competition held by the London Goethe Institute this year. He will study maths, physics, biology and chemistry from September.
The year group also includes one set of twins. Keen cricketers, Cate who will be studying RS, psychology, geography and biology and Georgia who will be studying maths, economics, geography and BTEC sport at Exeter School in September.
Amelia achieved ten 9 grades, with one 7, having joined the school in Year 5. She will study maths, biology, chemistry and physics in September ahead of her dream of studying medicine at an Oxbridge college.
Exeter School’s new Head of Sixth Form, Mr Luigi Chu said: “On behalf of everyone in the sixth form team, I wish all our Year 11 pupils hearty congratulations on their well-deserved results. We look forward to welcoming this cohort into the sixth form shortly and they can count on our full support to ensure they transition smoothly into the Lower Sixth, developing increased independence and ultimately preparing for a life beyond school. The sixth form is such a formative time and we look forward to taking this important journey together.”
One of the top performers Georgia scored nine grade 9s, four 8s and two 7s and joins her brother Mark in academic prowess; Mark’s four A* grades at A Level mean he will read maths at Worcester College, Oxford. Georgia looks forward to studying geography, German, chemistry and biology in the sixth form from September.
Head of Exeter School, Ms Louise Simpson said: “It’s clear from these excellent results that our current Year 11 pupils are hard-working, diligent Exonians that have truly made the most of the excellent teaching, pastoral care and facilities that Exeter School offers. We are deeply proud of each and every pupil, for their hard work, their tenacity and their ability to overcome the challenges that the past few years have thrown at them. We look forward to welcoming them into the sixth form and seeing what exciting times lie ahead.”
