Exeter City FC for Old Kent Road?
Exeter City FC has been voted to land on ‘Old Kent Road’ on a new official MONOPOLY board for Devon’s capital city.
The public has been polling for landmarks to fill the board, however it has been widely reported - including in the UK media and on national TV - that Exeter could perhaps be TOO POSH to have its own Old Kent Road equivalent.
And since these recent reports the public has nominated the Grecians to land on the infamous MONOPOLY location, which sits at the foot of the board.
One of these suggestions has been left on a forum in Exeter’s rival city, Plymouth.
But some, confirm the board’s makers today, appear to have come from close to (Exeter’s) home.
MONOPOLY boss Dan Taylor says: “We don’t know what to do. We’d be loath to place the football club on the Old Kent Road location as suggestions have to be credible and when they are placed on forums in rival cities then we have to take that into account. Polling has now closed and it may well be that we shall have to throw the dice to find an Old Kent Road for Exeter.”
Old Kent Road is the most moderately priced site compared to every other location (there are 22 streets in all) and costs just sixty MONOPOLY dollars (dollars are the universal MONOPOLY currency) to buy. Rentals are extremely low for anyone landing on this space, particularly in comparison to today’s ever spiralling rental prices.
“It’s our most talked about location,” adds Mr Taylor, Head of Custom Games at Winning Moves UK, the company making the board under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro.
“Over the years we have produced boards for perceived well-heeled places - such as Oxford, for example - but we have never come across a situation like this. We have had a dearth of suggestions for an Exeter equivalent of Old Kent Road compared to every other location so Exeter could perhaps be the poshest place in Britain.
“We have to fill this space, as we do every one of the 22 locations from the London original is handed over to an Exeter landmark or address.”
The new board will be out in time for this Christmas and will be available at both High Street stores including WHSmith, Waterstones, Toys R Us and The Works, as well as very widely online including amazon.co.uk
