Almost 4,000 people took to Escot Park at the weekend to tackle hydro slides, cargo climbs and extreme amounts of mud as runners faced the challenging RockSolidRace – one of the country’s muddiest and wettest obstacle courses.

There was an electric atmosphere throughout the day with teams competing for their chosen charities and individuals chasing their Personal Best race times. Teamwork was tested to the max as men and women helped each other overcome giant obstacles along the 5 and 10k course. One of the most popular proving to be ‘the bomb’ a vertical 12ft climb followed by a precarious leap into the boggy lake below.

Racers fended off gladiators armed with pugil sticks, clambered over 8ft walls and took to the swampy waters to complete the course. Caked head to toe in mud, the 4,000 racers were grateful for the hot showers on offer at the finish line!

University of Exeter student, Anna said:

“What a challenge! I had so much fun out there I want to do it all over again. It’s not often you’re faced with climbing, crawling, swimming, running and jumping all in one race!"

“We had such a laugh on the course, tackling all the obstacles and it’s great to do it all alongside your friends,” she added.

Ashley Jardine, RockSolidRace MD, said:

“We wanted to put on an event that was challenging for everyone and brought fun and teamwork to all obstacles on the course. All of our runners did just that with beaming smiles on display everywhere!”
