Concert debut for cathedral’s new choirmaster
Exeter Cathedral’s new Director of Music is looking forward to leading his choristers in concert for the first time since taking up the baton.
British organist and conductor Timothy Noon, who returned to the UK earlier this year to take up the post following a period of work in New Zealand, will direct the renowned Cathedral Choir in a special candlelit performance next month.
He said: “Exeter has an ancient Cathedral with a distinguished choral tradition. I have enjoyed my first weeks working with the choir and we are all looking forward to giving this first concert together.”
The performance takes place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 9th February in Exeter Cathedral and features music for ‘eventide’, with Josef Rheinberger’s Abendlied (‘evening song’) included alongside music by Gustav Holst, Henry Balfour Gardiner and others.
The annual “Candlelight Concert” traditionally helps to raise money for choir’s tour fund, allowing them to represent the city and Cathedral further afield.
