Exeter Phoenix galleries reopen with refurbished spaces and an internationally acclaimed artist
After an undergoing an extensive refurbishment this summer, Exeter Phoenix’s main gallery spaces have reopened with a key exhibition from internationally acclaimed artist Tania Kovats.
Tania Kovats’ exhibition Troubled Waters features new and recent work focusing on the issue of coral bleaching. Kovats is best known for producing sculptures, large-scale installations and drawings which explore ideas of landscape. Works exhibited in this show reflect on the critical state of coral reefs around the world and what this means for both the health of the seas and the security of the human populations protected by reefs. The exhibition has been supported by a grant from The Elephant Trust.
You can visit the gallery for free during its opening hours (Mon-Sat 10am-5.30pm, Sun 12-5.30pm) until Sunday 11th November.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to find out more about the exhibition at two upcoming special events. On Saturday 20th October Tania Kovats will be in conversation with Lara Goodband – curator and director of Exeter Culture – to discuss the themes of the exhibition at a free event. There will be an additional chance to hear Kovats discuss her work and find out more about the issues of coral bleaching at a screening of documentary Chasing Coral on Wednesday 7th November, which will be followed by a panel discussion with Tania Kovats and experts in the field of marine biology.
You can find out more about the exhibition and upcoming events by visiting Exeter Phoenix’s website.
