Last few tickets on sale for Devon music festival

THERE’S still a chance to snap up the last remaining tickets for a Devon music festival which takes place this month.

Now in its third year, the family-friendly Altitude Village Festival attracts a large local following and is beginning to make waves further afield with its commitment to bringing new, emerging independent and alternative music to the Blackdown Hills for all to enjoy.

Organisers have been thrilled with ticket sales to date and say that as they only have a handful of tickets left to sell, people need to buy them now to secure their chance to attend the event, which begins on Friday, May 19.

Tucked away in the village of Blackborough, only 15 minutes from Cullompton or Honiton, Altitude continues to build on its success as the ‘little festival with a big heart’.

The organisers, who devote much of their spare time to making the event come to life, are school teacher Greg Bottrill, project manager Phil Doodson and building company owner Jon Hague. Together their shared passion has seen the festival grow year on year, attracting visitors from across the country.

Phil says: ‘The village of Blackborough is a very special place for many reasons - its sense of community, it's stunning views out towards the expanses of Dartmoor and Exmoor and increasingly the annual Altitude Village Festival held each May on the village outskirts.

‘With two under-cover stages packed with an eclectic mix of local and national artists, the festival also features yoga, holistic therapies, singing workshops and a myriad of children's activities to build the atmosphere over the weekend.’

‘There’s something for everyone, including a wide selection of street food sellers and drink from around the county to offer delights for the tastebuds too.’

On-site camping and accommodation at local yurts and caravan sites make it the perfect festival for first time festival-goers and seasoned regulars alike. Its focus on family ensures that the weekend is the ideal opportunity for children and their parents to relax and unwind.

Jon adds: ‘It’s become known as the ‘little festival with a big heart’. The beginnings of Altitude came from our desire to put on an event that would not only bring the local community together but also bring in others to come and enjoy what the local area has to offer.’

With festival-goers coming from Wales, London and even the Scottish Borders the two-day event lives up to its vision and is becoming a firm favourite on the ‘festival circuit’.

He adds: ‘We're a not-for-profit set up and all our profits either go in to infrastructure for future years or, more importantly, are invested into local charitable causes.’

The gates open at noon on Friday, May 19 and the festival ends with breakfast on the morning of Sunday, May 21. Entry is by advance ticket only.

Tickets for the weekend are £30 for adults and £10 for under 16s, They are available via the website or from Kentisbeare Post Office. Limited caravan and camping tickets are available. For more information visit altitudedevon.wordpress.com
