Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM) has been acclaimed one of the country’s best museums in an award ceremony held in London today (Thursday 24 September).

RAMM was one of only six museums shortlisted from over 800 nominations for the 2015 Telegraph Family Friendly Museum Award, the third time that the museum has gained recognition as one of the country’s most family friendly museums.

Cllr Rosie Denham, Lead Councillor for Economy and Culture, said: “We are delighted to again be recognised as one of Britain’s most family friendly museums. RAMM aims to be friendly and welcoming to all and encouraging families to come and enjoy the collections, exhibitions and displays is crucial to its mission. Exeter is a great place to live, work and visit. We aspire to the highest standards and welcome the opportunity to let the country to know that we rank alongside the very best. We congratulate Carlisle's Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery on winning the award.”

RAMM’s displays reveal Devon and Exeter’s rich history and global connections. Exotic animals, birds and insects delight children and the world cultures galleries display stunning items from all over the world. Trails, gallery games, interactives and special events all aim to enrich visits by families. Museum of the Year 2012, RAMM has also won awards for tourism, architecture, learning, conservation and collections care.

The Family Friendly Museum Award is run by the charity Kids in Museums, it gives families a powerful voice in what they want in a museum visit. Their lobbying has helped make museums vibrant and lively places, full of activities and events for all ages.
