Spring and summer at Exeter Corn Exchange

The new programme for spring and summer at Exeter Corn Exchange features comedy, music, dance, children’s shows and a number of speciality events.

Some of the biggest names in stand-up comedy will perform at the City Council run venue with shows by Jim Davidson (28 Jan), Henning Wehn (4 Feb), Alan Carr (13 Feb), Count Arthur Strong (25 Feb), Andy Parsons (18 March), Jeremy Hardy (6 May), Stewart Francis (15 May), Lee Nelson (17 May), Rich Hall (24 May), Al Murray (27 May), Roy Chubby Brown (29 May) and Tim Vine (9 June). 

The ever-popular Exeter Comedy Club, featuring four performers from the national stand-up circuit in cabaret, returns to the venue on 6 February, 6 March, 10 April, 1 May, 5 June and 3 July and the Corn Exchange team is also promoting Jimmy Carr’s latest show, Funny Business, at the Riverside Leisure Centre on 22 August.

The live music programme kicks off on Friday 23 January with the legendry Three Degrees on their Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us tour.  On Sunday 22 February Mercury Music Prize nominees The Unthanks visit the venue and on Wednesday 4 March Classic Legends of Rock & Folk features the Carl Palmer Band, Martin Turner’s Wishbone Ash and the Strawbs. 

Radio Clash visit the Corn Exchange on Sunday 15 March as part of their recreation of the Clash’s 1978 tour, that tour also featured The Specials and Neville Staple of The Specials also appears with his current band.  In total contrast Bublé Fever on Sunday 22 March is a tribute to Michael Bublé and on Wednesday 8 April Feast of Fiddles features some of the best folk fiddlers in the UK in concert together.  Limehouse Lizzy and Livewire AC/DC appear on Saturday 11 April and Blues Rock guitarist Robin Trower is joined by special guest Joanne Shaw Taylor on Wednesday 15 April. 

The legendary American R&B and Soul singer Geno Washington appears with his band Yo Yo Blues on Friday 17 April and Gerry Marsden and band present Gerry Cross the Mersey on Saturday 25 April.  The Manfreds grace the Corn Exchange stage on Friday 8 May and the double header tribute show Blondie & Bowie returns to the venue on Saturday 9 May.  Let’s Twist Again with BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing lead singer Chris Madin features the music of the 50s and 60s on Saturday 20 June, Kast Off Kinks with former members of The Kinks back together is on Wednesday 12 August and The Carpenters story is on Wednesday 2 September.

Other shows booked for the Corn Exchange include gardening writer and BBC TV presenter Monty Don on Sunday 8 March, Vienna Festival Ballet on Friday 13 March and acclaimed wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan on Monday 16 March.  The Banff mountain film festival returns to the Corn Exchange with two different programmes on Friday and Saturday 27 and 28 March and The Lady Boys of Bangkok bring their lavish show, Red Hot Kisses, to the venue on Monday 27 April. 

Jaleo Flamenco perform on 20 May, Kinky & Quirky host another Burlesque and Boogie special on Saturday 6 June and the winner of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing Pasha Kovalev presents his show Life through Dance on Monday 15 June.  The Dreamboys return on Friday 7 August and the International Ocean Film Festival is on Friday 11 September.

The Corn Exchange also hosts Exeter Dance Festival from 14 until 21 February and The Little Mermaid on Sunday 31 March until Monday 6 April.  Disney favourite Singalonga Frozen is on Saturday 4 July and everyone’s favourite fox, Basil Brush, visits on his national tour on Wednesday 19 August.

Highlights later in the year include two concerts by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain on 19 September and two performances of Steve Backshall’s Wild World on 14 November.
