Devon-based Ashburton Motor Works has entered into a corporate partnership agreement with One Big Mop to provide production vehicles for the upcoming film The Darkness of the Moor.

The film, which is based on Dartmoor and the legend of the Evil Rider, completes its shooting in October.

The Darkness of the Moor follows a man who takes his seven-year-old daughter to Dartmoor to experience a traditional May Day celebration. When she disappears he cannot discern whether he is relapsing into madness or if the devil has actually taken her. The film has been shot entirely on location on Dartmoor and, as a project, is a tribute to and celebration of its dark history and mythology.

Said producer Paul Olavesen-Stabb: ”It was a difficult decision to select the vehicles that could cope not only with our huge diversity of production needs, but also with Dartmoor’s formidable terrain and the safe transportation of crew, celebrities and expensive camera equipment. Isuzu’s D-Max range of vehicles are the ideal choice and we are fortunate that the local dealer Ashburton Motor Works has shown tremendous support embracing a film concept which will hopefully enhance Dartmoor’s tourism long into the future”.

One Big Mop Productions is working closely with the Dartmoor National Park Authority, The Duchy of Cornwall and The Prince’s Trust, all of whom have shown tremendous support for and helped with the project.

Said Ashburton Motor Works partner, Mervyn Wills: We are very pleased to help and to be a part of this exciting film; and we welcome the opportunity to show our Subaru and Isuzu vehicles and their capabilities on and off road.

One Big Mop is a multi award-winning film production company, with one of its previous films, I’ll Be Home Soon, long-listed for an Oscar nomination; and another, Dreaming of Peggy Lee, has been invited to screen before the jury of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in consideration for an Oscar nomination. One Big Mop’s previous films have had theatrical release in France, Russia and Japan; with broadcast sales including HBO Europe, United Airlines in-flight movies and Shorts TV (global).

The Darkness of the Moor is a forerunner for two additional feature films of the same name to follow and the producers are in discussions with Goldcrest Films (Carol, Captain Philips, Twilight, Gandhi, etc.).
