Elkie Brooks, one of the most successful and popular singers the UK has ever produced will perform at Exeter Corn Exchange on Friday 24 January.

In 1960 Elkie won a talent contest in Manchester and started out on a career which is still going strong more than 50 years later.

Humphrey Lyttelton invited her to become a guest vocalist with his renowned jazz band and her collaborations with him lasted for forty years until she was asked to sing at his funeral and scatter his ashes from a hang glider over the North Devon coast.

Her big public breakthrough came in 1977 when she released ‘Pearl’s a Singer’ a million seller which helped Elkie’s career flourish. By 1997 she had released 15 hit albums, more than any other British female singer in the preceding two decades.

The success story continues and Elkie’s nationwide tours are still in great demand because of the grit, determination and raw emotion that are evident in every song she performs.

Tickets (£23.50) are available from Exeter Corn Exchange on 01392 665938.  Tickets can also be purchased online at www.exeter.gov.uk/cornexchange
