Ian Gardner’s band Nine Pound Catfish returns to provide footstompin’ good-time blues and hokum  http://www.ninepoundcatfish.co.uk/listen-here   at Brixham Blues, at the Maritime Inn on Thursday July 13.

The Exeter trio, which has Graham Butterfield on guitar, mandolin, banjo and vocals and Jane Gardner on washboard and percussion, proves that the blues doesn’t have to be blue – it can be fun too.

Stuart Cumberpatch, organiser of Brixham Blues says: “After a run of top US and London bluesmen, we’re featuring Devon players for the next couple of months, starting with Exeter’s top blues band 9lb Catfish. This trio taps into the fun-time jug-band ethos of the 1920s and 30s, when if the band wasn’t fun and you couldn’t dance to it – it didn’t get paid. So expect your feet to keep on tappin’.

“Then, on Thursday August 10, I’ve invited the Teignmouth Blues Club (which can be enjoyed on 3rd Wednesdays at the OysterCatcher’s Cafe, Teignmouth) to bring Teignmouth blues to Brixham. Performers will include Clive Sheard (my partner’s favourite!), Alan Hooper, Andy Mills, David Jeffery and friends. And we’re always delighted to offer floor spots to newcomer blues performers, just let me know you’re there at the beginning of the evening and I’ll schedule you in.”
