Whether you like it or you don't, sponsorship money is vital to the survival of professional football teams both large and small. The money generated by fans going through turnstiles and buying official shirts is now a mostly-insignificant aspect of a club's annual income. Television money, commercial partnerships, and sponsorships have a far bigger role to play - and down in League Two, where Exeter City are, having a sponsor can be the difference between making ends meet and failing to do so.

Exeter hasn't gone as far with sponsorship as other clubs have in the past. So far, we...

Exeter City Manager Comparison: Matt Taylor vs Paul Tisdale

Former captain Matt Taylor took over from outgoing boss Paul Tisdale in the summer of 2018, and the 38-year old has managed to get the fans back on side during his 18-month tenure at St.James' Park. We take a look at how Taylor's time in charge compares to Tisdale's lengthy stint in the dugout.

We are getting to the business end of the season. A sudden bad run of results now will derail all the hard work of the previous eight months. Likewise, a well-timed run between now and May, like a 1500-metre runner sitting on the shoulder of his or her rival on the final bend before kicking on for the finishing line, can make all the difference. So which will it be for The Grecians?

Increased Expectations

At the beginning of the season, Exeter City, their fans and players were hoping for, and indeed expecting nothing less than a play-off spot. Signs were certainly good as...

Are there Serious Doubts Regarding Exeter City’s Academy?

Matt Taylor, who is the manager for Exeter City has called upon various professionals to see if it is possible to make some changes to the Elite Player Performance Plan. This ruling looks to be killing a lot of lower-level clubs. The main reason for this is because Academy Players are not actually protected until they reach the age of 16. At this point, they can then receive a full and professional contract. The Grecians have seen a lot of youngsters opt for bigger clubs after they leave the Academy but when they do, they receive absolutely no financial compensation. The overall aim of the...

Exeter City fought back from a goal down to earn a point at home to Crawley Town.

The Grecians started the match brightly, but it was the...

Northampton Town 2 Exeter City 0: Match report

A first minute opener from Vadaine Oliver and Sam Hoskins’ 80th-minute penalty gave Northampton Town all three points in this Sky Bet League Two encounter.

Manager Matt Taylor reverted back to the side which travelled to Macclesfield Town in City’s previous League Two encounter - but did made one change with Tom Parkes replacing Dean Moxey in central defence.

After just 54 seconds the Grecians, rather unfortunately, found themselves behind as Northampton’s Oliver latched onto a lofted ball over the top of the back three and half-volleyed past Lewis Ward into the top corner...
